What’s So Important About History?

“All these things happened to them as examples—as object lessons to us—to warn us against doing the same things; they were written down so that we could read about them and learn from them in these last days as the world nears its end.” ~1 Cor. 10:11, The Living New Testament

“History is philosophy learned from examples.”  ~Dionysius

“History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.”                          ~Maya Angelou

“To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history?” ~Cicero

“Our ignorance of history causes us to slander our own times.” ~Gustave Flaubert

“History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are.”           ~David C. McCullough

“We have nothing to fear for the future except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history.”
E. G. White, Life Sketches, p. 196
