L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE

“L’ UNION FAIT LA FORCE” is the motto found on the Haitian flag. It means “through unity we find strength.” It took an extraordinary demonstration of unity for Haiti to become the only country in the Western Hemisphere to execute a successful slave revolution. To gain their independence they had to fight three prominent European powers: Spain, England, and of course, France.
As in the United States, modern Haitian politics don’t always seem to reflect the ideals of their founders.  As Christians, we know people are so deceptive that we’ll even fool ourselves (Jer. 17:9).  That’s why we’re not shocked by insincere or hypocritical politicians.
What should alarm Christians is our failure to live up to the ideals of the church’s Founder.  Unity of His disciples was one of Christ’s greatest concerns the night of His arrest.  Unity was the theme of His prayer in John 17.  Are you doing your part to grant Jesus’ petition?
