“We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us” (2 Cor. 4:7, NIV).
“It is not the capabilities that you now possess, or ever will have, that will give you success. It is that which the Lord can do for you. We need to have far less confidence in what man can do, and far more confidence in what God can do for every believing soul” (Colporteur Ministry, 119).
One reason I love the Bible is that by looking at the people God has worked through and for in the past, I believe He is able to do great things through and for me too.
God used…
Noah and he was a drunkard…
Abraham and he was a liar…
Jacob and he was a con-man…
Joseph and he was a spoiled brat…
Moses and he was a st, st, st, stutterer…
Gideon and he was a skeptic…
Elijah and he showed evidence of manic-depression…
David and he was a murderer…
Solomon and he was a womanizer…
Rahab and she was a man-izer…
Jeremiah and he was a crybaby…
Jonah and he was a runaway…
John the Baptist and he was a loudmouth…
Peter and he got scared by a girl…
James and John and they needed anger management classes…
Thomas and he was a doubter…
Timothy and he was timid…
Paul and he was a blasphemer and persecutor…
Balaam’s donkey and he was a donkey!
If God could speak through a donkey, then what excuse do we have for not expecting Him to do great things through us?
