“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” ~Matthew 6:33
I’ve come to the conclusion that Christians don’t have finance problems. Even when we don’t know how we’re going to pay the bills, put gas in the car or put food on the table, we still don’t have finance problems. The church school may close, the A/C unit may have broken down and the church doesn’t have money to fix it, the Pathfinders are asking for money for their next trip when they’ve barely gotten back from the last one—yet we still don’t have finance problems.
When Christians face financial challenges we really don’t have a finance problems, we have focus problems. When we focus on our ability (or inability) to obtain the finances we show our lack of faith in the Financier. Jesus’ prescription for financial problems is to focus on the kingdom and the finances won’t be a problem.
Where in the Gospels have you seen Jesus with a finance problem? Philip was focused on finances when Jesus told him to feed the 5,000. Peter was focused on finances after promising to pay the temple tax. Did Jesus call an emergency board meeting to address their financial problem? No, He divided a couple of fish sandwiches to feed the crowd and sent a fish with money in its mouth to shut Peter’s.
What miracle does Jesus have to work to shut our mouths when it comes to doubting His promise to take care of our finances? Focus on the kingdom. Trust His promise to add all these other things unto us.
